Courts/Grounds

Norman Allnatt updated the committee on the current position in relation to court development and feedback on the series of meetings with the LTA in February. In relation to replacement of surface on courts 4-6, quote had been received from Platts. Cost of artificial grass surface will be in the region of £80-85 thousand. Awaiting final 2 quotes we need to meet LTA requirements. Action to be taken next is:

Seek Management Committee approval to progress at meeting on 22/3/10.

Run information giving/consultation meeting with members on 30th March.

Subject to satisfactory outcome of 1 and 2 tie up all loose ends on application forms for LTA and submit.

Position in relation to Swansea Tennis centre is still unclear.

Maintenance –courts 7 to 9 are now ready to be opened. Discussion took place around balancing need for security with members being able to access the courts. Agreed combination on padlock should be changed monthly but system to be devised to publish combination to members. Discuss further with Tony Ridout.

Further working parties will take place on Fridays – hope is to lay clay on crts 4-6 and have those courts ready by 21/3. All club courts would then be open – further work is necessary though on crts 7 to 9.

Discussion also took place on whether we could utilise university/council grounds staff and equipment on a contract basis for ongoing maintenance. Action Jeff Gleave/John Gregory to meet with university to explore further.
